How to create a DANCE recruitment video
Guidelines for Creating Your University DANCE Recruitment Video
Creating a strong dance recruitment video is essential to showcasing your talent to university coaches and admissions teams! This guide will help you prepare, film, and submit your content for the best results!
SECTION 1 – WHAT TO INCLUDE
1. Introduction
Start with a brief introduction (30 seconds max):
- Your full name
- Age and grade
- Dance discipline(s) you specialize in.
- Current studio or school and how long you’ve been performing
- Any notable achievements (e.g., awards, competitions, roles)
- And why you want to study and dance internationally
2. Demonstration of Technique
Showcase foundational and advanced skills specific to your dance style (e.g., ballet, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary):
- Examples: pirouettes, leaps, footwork, extensions, isolations, or acrobatics.
- Include sequences that highlight your technical precision and control.
We always advise students to chat to your coach. They will know what they look for in a talented athlete and should be able to guide you.
3. Performance
Include clips from performances if available:
- Ensure they show you clearly (well-lit and identifiable).
- Solo performances or moments when you’re the focus in group performances are best.
4. Improvisation
A short improvised segment can demonstrate creativity and musicality:
- Keep this 30–60 seconds long.
5. Optional: Choreography
If you choreograph, showcase a short original piece to highlight your creativity and understanding of movement.
SECTION 2 – FILMING TIPS
- Quality: Use a camera or smartphone with good video quality (1080p or higher is ideal).
- Lighting: Ensure the filming area is well-lit (natural or studio lighting). Avoid shadows or backlighting.
- Background: Use a clean, uncluttered background for clarity.
- Framing: Film in landscape mode (horizontal) to fit standard video screens.
- Sound: If music is involved, ensure it is clear and appropriate for the choreography.
- Clothing: Wear form-fitting dance attire that highlights your movements. Avoid busy patterns.
SECTION 2 – WHAT TO SEND US
- Final video file or raw clips for editing.
- Music details (title, composer, etc.) for performances if required.
- A short bio (100–200 words) summarizing your dance experience and achievements.
